I was about 15 years old, visiting my grandparents like most Friday evenings for Shabbat dinner. There I saw it, on their beautiful antique camel back sofa, the face of Stanley Kubrick on the front page, and a long interview about his crazy obsessive directing style towards the release of ‘Eyes Wide Shut’. I read it in one breath. Later that evening my grandmother asked me for some reason what I want to be when I grow up. I said quietly that I don’t know, but inside I wanted to scream that I want to become a film director. I was just ashamed to say it out loud, fearing it will sound pompously pretentious, and fearing I’ll have to be also crazy to pull it off. But that’s when I knew it.
